THE LOCATION

The town of Ropice lies in the Beskyds. This is a mountain arc of around 600 km in length and 50-70 km in width that begins in Moravia (at the Moravian Gate), continues to the north of the Tatra Mountains, and ends in the Ukraine. It forms the watershed between tributaries of the Oder and Weichsel to the north and the East Slovakian lowlands (Hungarian deep-sea plain) to the south. Today the Moravian-Silesian Beskyds in particular are often commonly referred to as simply the Beskyds. This part of the Beskyd Mountain range runs along the northern part of the border between the Czech Republic (more specifically: Silesia and Moravia) and Slovakia and is the headwaters of the Odra. It numbers among the western foothills of the Carpathians and has recently again become the home of bears and wolfs who have travelled here from Slovakia.

Location in the Czech boarder triangle – Poland (15 km) – Slovakia (17 km) Distances: Ostravá 55 km, Olomouc 93 km, Brno 165 km, Prague 360 km, Vienna 320 km
