THE REGION

The earlier residential city of the Royal House of Teschen was divided between Czechia and Poland in a peace treaty in 1920. Thus the cities of Ceský Tešín on the Czech side and Cieszyn on the Polish side of the Olsa River came into being. The cityscape of the Polish Cieszyn still exudes the dignity of the former residential city, with magnificent buildings at the city’s centre, bourgeoisie villas at the periphery and pleasant squares which invite one to sit and relax.

Into the 80s of the 20th century, Moravian Silesia was areas of heavy industry, with Ostravá at the centre. Since that point in time, the region has completely changed. Today it is overwhelmingly agricultural with a lot of water, forests, and clean air, characterized by the Beskids. The people here have begun to understand the importance of tourism as an economic factor for a region like this. The CHATEAU ROPICE project has set off a process of re-evaluation for politicians as well.
