Today’s Czech Republic was created after the Second World War from the former Austro-Hungarian monarchy. The Czech Republic (Bohemia and Moravia) from the areas of Czechia and Slovakia. On January 1st, 1993, the two countries again separated. The Czech Republic shares long borders with Austria 362 km, Germany 646 km, Poland 658 km, and Slovakia 215 km.

The Czech Republic has been a member of the EU since 2004. Since then, the economy has boomed, due in part to very low wages. Germany is the country’s largest trading partner with ca. 33% of all exports.
